The Star Stitch is a strinking alternative to a Flowerette in embellishing smocking/

The Star Stitch is worked over 4 pleats. Star with 3 Straight Stitches : one horizontal across pleats #1 and #4 and two diagonal stitches across pleats #2 and #3 (Step 1). All of these striaght stitches should have their endpoints on the top of the pleat, and the diagonal stitches should be the same length as the horizontal stitch. Now, bring the needle up in the valley between pleats #2 and #3 and make a small stitch over the center of the star to anchor it (Step 2).
