JAPANESE RIBBON STITCH

This is the more common way of executing a Straight Stitch with ribbon than the plain Ribbon Stitch.  Pierce the ribbon when stabbing the needle down.  This keeps the ribbon flat, makes the stitch shape more pointed at the end (like a leaf or a teardrop), and also adds two little curls to the end of the stitch.

Hints:
  • Take great care in the stitch tension - if you pull the stitch too tight, the ribbon will curl up along the total length of the stitch instead of just the tip.
