This stitch is a variation of the flat Satin Stitch. Although it looks simple - just three (or five) stitches making a circle - it is not easy to do. In days past, an embroideress was judged on her ability to sew perfect little circles with this stitch.

To raise the dot off the fabric, pad with a tiny Seed Stitch in the center of the circle.
