This stitch is usually worked on canvas in a square shape. Here it is worked as a circle on plain fabric. This is a highly raised stitch.

First, mark a circle on the fabric and outline it with small Split Stitches or Split Backstitches. Next, stitch across the circle. Make another stitch, rotated slightly. Continue until the entire circle is filled. Note that in this drawing the outline and the long stitching are shown as different colors for clarity; you should outline with the same color as the long stitching.
