CAST-ON STITCH
The Cast-On Stitch is made just like a Bullion Stitch, but with twisted loops instead of wrapping the thread. If you're a knitter, the thread is cast on the needle the same way you would cast on yarn onto a knitting needle. This adds a nubby ridge to the edge of the stitch.

Start the stitch the same as for a Bullion Stitch (Step 1). Instead of simply wrapping the thread around the needle, give it a twist (Step 2). Continue casting onto the needle until you have as many loops as you need (Step 3). Now, gently pull the needle through, while holding the loops in place with your thumb (Step 4). Continue to pull the thread gently, and the stitch will rotate around (Step 5). Lastly, insert the needle at the end (Step 6).

Hints:
  • Use a straw or milliner's needle. The needle's shaft doesn't taper, and the eye of the needle has the same diameter. This allows the needle to slide smoothly through the loops in Step 4.
  • If you use too many loops for the stitch length, the stitch will curve a little. A large curve (made by wrapping many more wraps than the stitch length needs) makes a Cast-On Loop.
