The Algerian Eye Stitch is traditionally used in Canvas Embroidery, but it is a wonderful stitch worked on regular fabric. Because of its square shape, it makes a good filling stitch.

To sew the Algerian Eye, stitch eight Straight Stitches as shown in the drawing below.

To vary this stich a little, you can add eight additional Straight Stitches - either to fill in the square or to just build up the center. These additional stitches can also be in a different color.
